First sights of the city

First view of the city

Day 1

My first view of the city coming around the corner, through a break in the trees as the cart rumbles its way past the edge of this big lake. We passed some minor disturbance on the road, local officers putting down a demonstration by other woodland residents, I didn’t catch the details of what was up, but it didn’t look like anything much to worry about.

Arriving in the city

Big wooden buildings sprawl across this hillside and dot along the cliff edge, it looks stunningly beautiful as we approach and I’ve already met plenty of interesting characters just on the road into the place. The main road here seems quiet, and there isn’t much to see besides the huge building up ahead with its stunning views over the lake, but I can hear the bustle of the rest of the city some way beyond.

Here I am

Speaking to one of the gate guards, the man seemed rather rude, as well as unnecessarily tall, seems not best pleased to see anyone not from around his city, not a great attitude to take, but hopefully I don’t have to deal with his type much. At least he’s given me directions on where to go and who to talk to up ahead. Onwards into this Adventurer’s Guild to meet others like myself and start my path towards fame and fortune.

Day 1

All packed and ready to go

The shadows twinkle around me as light softly filters through the trees, the sun rising behind me, birds calling to each other in the dawn as the undergrowth rustles with the sound of animals scurrying back home. I sigh softly, watching the track that winds through the trees and down the side of the hill, I have been here for an hour so far, anxious not to miss the cart that passes through twice a day. My bag rests on the ground at my feet. Behind me, I can hear the first early risers going about their business, but resist the urge to turn and greet them, any excuse could see me putting off leaving again.

My future lies in the big city, not here in a small cluster of homes dotted through these trees. All around I see my childhood, bushes I hid behind while learning to hunt, trees I fell out of gathering apples, the stream where I splashed about and played and pranked my friends. Setting childhood behind me, I pick up my bag and watch the cart slowly bounce its way around the bend in the road and start rolling its noisy, creaking way up the hill towards me.

Me and my new bow

Let’s see how well a properly trained hunter can do showing off their skills in the big city, I’m sure there’s all sorts of jobs for someone with my training, creeping up on prey unseen, scurrying through the wooded landscape, shooting down even fast moving targets, we learn all sorts of value out here in the rural landscape. Me and my bow will likely quickly become popular and earn all sorts of fame and fortune and plenty of money too. I like this new bow, it’s served me well the last few months, after I had it made by a childhood friend back in our little village, but I didn’t want to tell them I’d already started saving up to buy a new one once I get to the city with its bustling marketplaces and skilled craftsmen.
